Senator Susan Rubio donated to Options for Learning

On April 30, California State Senator Susan Rubio personally delivered large containers of hand sanitizer to the Child Care Services office of Options for Learning and extended her gratitude to employees.

Donning their masks and safely distancing from one another, small groups of staff rotated in to listen to the senator speak.

“Thank you for providing these essential services to our community and for putting yourselves out there for others. I hope these supplies help,” said Rubio. “I was a teacher for more than 17 years and a vice principal for two, and I understand the high need in our community at this time.”

Over the next few weeks, the hand sanitizers will be distributed to local licensed child care providers who are caring for the children of essential personnel. According to Kelly O’Connell, Options for Learning’s deputy executive director, most Child Care Services programs are mandated to remain open in order to help families locate child care and assist qualifying essential workers to pay for care. Within the past week, her division has received an additional $2.2 million to support the unique needs of families and child care providers during the COVID-19 pandemic, but community donations and support have helped immensely.

When Options for Learning contacted Senator Rubio, she quickly understood the need to keep her district’s children safe and immediately stepped up to help. The senator’s donation was truly appreciated and she provided a much-needed staff morale boost during this challenging time.

Thank you, Senator Rubio!
