Our school-age programs provide a safe, engaging environment where children in grades K–8 can continue learning, build friendships, and explore their interests beyond the classroom. Located right on school campuses, our programs offer convenience for families and a familiar, supportive setting for children.
Whether it's the start of the day or after the final bell has rung, we're here to support your child — and your family — every step of the way.
The hours before and after school are some of the most important of a child's day. Left unstructured, they can be lost. Given purpose, these hours become something children actually look forward to.
Our programs are designed to give children real opportunities — to grow in independence, strengthen relationships, and discover what they enjoy — all in a safe, nurturing environment that families can depend on, day after day.
After-school programs vary widely. Here's what families who've been with Options for Learning tell us makes the difference — and why many children stay with us year after year.
Many children stay with the same familiar staff year after year, creating the continuity, trust, and sense of belonging that makes our programs feel less like child care and more like community.
Activities are thoughtfully planned to balance homework support, enrichment, and choice — so children stay both supported and genuinely inspired. This isn’t supervised waiting. It’s a program with purpose.
Children enjoy healthy, locally sourced, and organic snacks at no cost, supporting their energy, focus, and overall health.
We focus not only on academics but also on social-emotional growth, confidence, and independence — because the skills children build in the hours before and after school shape who they become as much as what happens in the classroom.
Our teams stay connected with families and school communities to ensure children are supported throughout the day. We see ourselves as an extension of both the family and the school — not a separate world.
Families can feel confident knowing their children are cared for by trained, attentive staff in a structured and welcoming setting. Safety is the foundation on which everything else is built.
Children arrive at our programs and find an afternoon that was actually planned for them — not a holding pattern until pick-up. Each day is shaped so children feel supported, engaged, and genuinely excited to come back.
Supporting academic success: Dedicated homework time with staff support helps children build confidence and stay on track. Children leave with their work done and evenings free for family time.
These aren’t separate program components. They're woven together across every afternoon — a day with real structure and real purpose, built around children who deserve both.

Getting started takes just a phone call or a few minutes online. Here's how it works:
Apply at any time through our online form, or call us at 626-699-8070, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tell us your child's grade, their school, and what kind of coverage you need — we'll confirm which program is available at their campus.
For subsidized enrollment in Empowered Learning or Surround Care, you'll need to provide income and employment documentation. For the Enrichment Program, no income documentation is required. Your enrollment advisor will walk you through exactly what's needed. Eligibility is confirmed once documents are reviewed by our staff.
Once eligibility is confirmed, an enrollment specialist finalizes your child's placement and gives you everything you need for their first day. If your child is coming from OFL's TK or preschool programs, the familiar OFL community makes the transition smooth.
There's no shortage of after-school options. Here's what makes families choose — and stay with — Options for Learning:
No second drop-off, no pick-up logistics, no transition anxiety. Your child walks from their classroom to our program — in a place they already know and feel safe.
We cover winters, springs, summers, and non-school days — eliminating the annual scramble for school break coverage.
Our programs are built around intentional, thoughtfully planned activities — homework support, STEAM, arts, physical activity, and character development. Children aren't just being watched. They're growing.
Our school-age programs are funded through a combination of state contracts and family fees, which allows us to serve families across a range of financial situations.
Options for Learning's School-age Programs are located directly on school campuses in partnership with local school districts. Current partner districts include Alhambra Unified School District, Rowland Unified School District, and San Gabriel Unified School District, as well as schools in East Whittier, La Habra, La Puente, Rowland Heights, San Gabriel, Santa Fe Springs, South El Monte, Walnut, West Covina, and Whittier. Program availability varies by campus.

Yes — and this is one of the smoothest transitions we offer. Children who've been with OFL through preschool or TK already know our community, our approach, and in many cases our staff. Moving into a school-age program is a natural next step. Talk to our enrollment team about continuity options.
