The Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors program empowers parents/caregivers of young children by building their skills and confidence as their child’s first and most important teacher. Program participants build community and provide support and encouragement to other parents/caregivers. Participants also receive giveaways and other incentives throughout the program.
Yes, the Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors program is offered in English and Spanish.
The Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors program is presented through 10 weekly sessions. Each session is approximately 90 minutes long and includes time for breaks and a meal or light refreshments when held in person.
During the Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors program, facilitators guide parents/caregivers through a different topic each week. Parents/caregivers are encouraged to participate in individual and group activities, as well as discussions, to build their skills and confidence as leaders of their family.
Families can participate in an in-person or virtual program group. The program is offered in person at an Options for Learning school site or virtually on Zoom.
Yes, child care is offered for in-person program sessions.
Participants are asked to commit to attending all 10 weekly sessions of Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors to receive the full benefit of the program. However, we understand that parents' and caregivers’ time is valuable and limited, and scheduling conflicts may arise. Participants are asked to maintain open communication with their program facilitators about any scheduling conflicts.
